The Kashmir Issue and the So-Called Terrorism

Terrorism means injecting fear among the people through words and acts. There are several forms of terrorism such as killings, plundering, raping, trespassing and violating law of the land. Terrorist may be a person, a group of persons, an organization or even a state. Terrorism existed even before 9/11 but it was in the limelight internationally when the world trade center and Pentagon Head Quarters were attacked. The US administration decided to counter this menace with its advanced military power. The US created an atmosphere of terrorism to terrorize the terrorists in the whole world militarily and diplomatically. Being a super power the concerns of the US were very legitimate and it well controlled the Al-Qaida activities and targeted its hubs all over the world. The US actions against Al-Qaida activists had the support of the world. As the most Al-Qaida activists were the Arab muslims, so the Western Media connected the terrorism with the muslims and the Islam to make it a worldwide view. Some non-muslims communities could naturally be influenced by the propaganda but the countries which exploited the US anti-terrorist policy were India and Israel. India, denying the right of self-determination and using military power to suppress the freedom movement of the people of Indian held Kashmir, ascribed the just struggle of the people of Kashmir to terrorism without any scruple of moral norms. It is unfortunate that India's state terrorism is continuing unchecked and Its army is enjoying special powers to perpetrate atrocities against the separatists. The US has declared the militant outfits as terrorist so India is successful to the extent of winning support of the super power for its malicious designs to continue possession of Kashmir against the will of its inhabitants. What may be the repercussions of the Indian Kashmir policy the more probability is that the tension will prevail upon the Indo-Pakistan relations, the threat to regional and International peace and violation of human rights will continue. The consequences of Indian stance on Kashmir are not very comforting for India itself. It will have to invest heavily on diplomacy to raise the bogey of terrorism on the part of Kashmiri separatists and blame Pakistan for its so-called support of Pakistan to freedom fighters, side by side its military presence in Indian occupied Kashmir. The only way out to Kashmir issue is negotiation between India and Pakistan. Pakistan is a party to Kashmir issue and there is no likelihood that it will succumb to Indian military and diplomatic pressures. it is certain that India may delay the solution but it cannot get rid of the issue for good. The World powers must realize the gravity of the matter and make India understand the consequences of its stubbornness on Kashmir Issue. It ill behooves a nuclear India to raise hue and cry of so-called terrorism in Kashmir instead acknowledging the just right of the people of Kashmir.
